Marcus Rashford jest niewątpliwie jednym z największych bohaterów Wielkiej Brytanii ostatnich dni. Napastnik Manchesteru United przez ostatnich kilkadziesiąt godzin prowadził kampanię na rzecz zmiany decyzji dotyczącej zaprzestania finansowania programu dokarmiania potrzebujących dzieci w okresie szkolnych wakacji.
Wszystko zaczęło się od apelu, który Anglik wystosował za pośrednictwem swojego konta na Twitterze w nocy z niedzieli na poniedziałek. Pierwsze doniesienia medialne mówiły jednak o tym, że nie został on wysłuchany przez polityków.
Wpis ten zaczął być jednak szeroko komentowany w mediach społecznościowych i nie tylko, a także udostępniany w ogromnej ilości przez innych użytkowników Twittera. Następnie Rashford powtórzył swój apel w artykule dla „The Times”.
We wtorek popołudniu angielskie media zgodnie podały, że napastnik Manchesteru United dopiął swego. Brytyjski rząd postanowił zmienić decyzję i dofinansował o kolejne 120 milionów funtów Fundację Żywności, która będzie dalej prowadziła programy żywieniowe na rzecz potrzebujących dzieci w okresie wakacji.
